Dunboy Castle, the ancestral home of the O'Sullivan clan, was destroyed in 1603, at which time Sullivan O'Bere, the leader of the clan, led his family and followers to Leitrim in an attempt to save them from being captured by the English forces. They began with over 1,000 people and arrived with 35. Today, the Beara-Briefne Way honours those brave souls, offering walkers and bicyclists safe and scenic pathways that follow the route of their epic march.
